The best way to reach the Emporia Animal Shelter is to call and leave a message at (620) 340-6345. You can also email them at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Can I stop in to visit the animals?
No. Due to COVID, we are currently only accepting appointments to visit the shelter.
How do I apply to adopt?
Apply with the online application found on the animal’s profile or click here.
How long does the application process take?
The time that approval takes can be dependent on how quickly we are able to confirm your landlord, veterinarian, and reference checks. There is also an overnight hold on all applications. If everything goes as it should, approval takes about 48 hours, and the time from application to adoption can all happen within a week.
How do I know if the animal that I want is available?
Each animal is available unless “pending adoption” is listed on their photo/bio. We process applications in the order in which they were received. There is a possibility that the animal is not yet "pending" but does have an application in front of yours. All adoption applications required an overnight hold prior to approval.
What is your process?
Our first step in the process is to have you fill out an adoption application. Please fill it out completely, as incomplete applications will NOT be processed. All applications require an overnight hold prior to being approved. Once your application is approved, we will contact you to set up an appointment time for you to visit the shelter.
What is included in the adoption fee?
Dogs will have received DA2PP and Bordetella vaccinations.
Cats will have received Rhinotracheitis-Calici-Panleukopenia-Chlamydia Psittaci vaccinations.
What breed is the animal I’m interested in?
All of the animals at our shelter have been picked up stray. In most cases, visual breed identification is unreliable, even by “trained” eyes. So, for the majority of our animals, we are merely guessing, with our vets' assistance, at the predominant breed or a mix of breeds based on certain features. This is only a guess, and no guarantees are made as to the breed of the animal. If you live in a breed ban area, it is your responsibility to make sure the animal you adopt does not violate the requirement of your city. All of the information that we have is given to you.
